That is a great question and one that we thought would be a good idea to post on our blog.

When purchasing our Cardiff Crackle subway tiles and if using black or a dark color grout we strongly recommend sealing the tiles prior to installation. Sealing the crackle tiles before installing them will protect against any of the black or dark grout getting in to the crackle glaze and will ensure a trouble free install.

For our Cottage Lane subway tiles, since these tiles are not crackle glaze it is not necessary to seal them prior to installation. Hopefully this post is helpful and answers the question fully. If you need any further clarification don’t hesitate to give us a call at our office.

We talked last week about the Recess-It products from Innovis but we wouldn’t be fair if we didn’t also talk about what may be their most popular items and they are called the Better-Bench products. These products are an excellent choice when building a shower bench, step, or small seat. The Better-Bench products come in multiple sizes and are easy to install before or after the vertical wall tile is installed.
The Better-Bench products are made of long-lasting and corrosion resistant materials and they have a load capacity of 400 lbs on all of the bench products. Trust me when I say that this product is an installer’s best friend when re-doing a shower so don’t pass on an opportunity to make your life much easier when re-doing any shower or bathroom area.
Happy Tiling!

Having problems getting just the right cuts on your tiles? Tile saws are great for making straight cuts or ever so slight angled cuts on many types of tiles. However, making smaller angled cuts that require precision in a smaller area are better made using Tile Nippers.

Trying to use a tile saw to make such cuts would result in excessive blade wear and would also eat up quite a bit of your tile material with trying to get just the right cut and necessary adjustments as a result of using a larger blade to make a smaller cut.

Tile Nippers are made in different models with special cutting surfaces designed for use with either ceramic tile, porcelain tile, or glass tile. Choose the tile nippers made for your material and you will find the results to be true and accurate. For smaller, angled or specialized cuts you will find tile nippers to be a far superior choice for making cuts than using a tile saw.

For materials found on the anchorbaytile website we recommend using tile nippers when making cuts to our Classic Hexagon Porcelain tiles. Because of the small size of the individual pieces as well as those smaller pieces being mesh mounted we do not recommend making cuts to our Hexagon tiles using a tile saw. Tile Nippers are the better choice and we note this to our customers on each of our Hexagon tile samples.

So for those of you confronted with the challenge of how to make smaller, more detailed cuts on ceramic, porcelain, or glass tiles go out and pick up a pair of tile nippers at your local tool supply store to make your tile project go a little bit smoother than it otherwise would if forced to try these cuts with a tile saw.

We offer several other decorative liners and borders in the Cottage Lane subway tile collection including our beautiful Rope Liner, Bar Liner, and Pencil liner which are all excellent choices for adding some style to your tiled area.

We all know how well the pairing of PB & J goes? By most accounts we think that whoever put the two together can confidently say that the experiment was a success. We have our own version of PB & J and that would be subway tile and hexagon tile.

Those who own Bungalow or Cottage homes or homes from the Arts & Crafts era know this combination well. The subway tile, hexagon tile combination was a popular one in homes in the early 1900’s as well as homes built in the 1950’s and 1960’s. In the last ten years or so give or take a year here or a year there, the subway tile, hexagon tile look has caught steam again and there appears to be no slowing this train down.

Check out our Cottage Lane subway tiles or our Cardiff Crackle glaze subway tiles both of which are available in a 3” x 6” or a 2” x 4” size and each is in stock and ready for shipment. Order these tiles together with our Classic Hexagon Porcelain un-glazed tiles which are available in either a White or a Black color. These tiles are also in stock and are ready for immediate shipment.

We know that you will be pleased with the quality of each of our tile collections and once installed the compliments from friends and family will come fast and frequent.

We recently had a client use our Solana Glass subway tile in both the Cappuccino and the Khaki color for her Kitchen Backsplash and we think that the project came out beautiful. Have a look at how the two colors together really add some depth and modern color to the clients home and the two colors also coordinate quite well with the cabinets and countertop.

Our Solana glass subway tiles in 3” x 6” are available in seven wonderful color choices and our glass subway tiles are a perfect choice for upgrading a kitchen backsplash as is pictured above, or for modernizing a bathroom shower as one can see by viewing different glass subway tile installation pictures located on the AnchorBayTile website.

The Solana glass subway tiles come in a standard flat edge or even a Beveled edge glass subway tile option to ensure that you have many style and color choices. We have also made a coordinating glass tile quarter round available in colors that match any of our glass subway tiles. The glass tile quarter round is used when a project calls for a trim or edge piece to cover an exposed edge. The glass tile quarter rounds can also be used as accent strips to go with any ceramic, porcelain, or stone tiles.

Order your Solana glass subway tile samples today and the samples we guarantee will arrive at your door in a week or less so you can make your tile decisions quickly. We look forward to having the opportunity to work with you.

We know that there are quite a few subway tile aficionados who want to use subway tiles in their home but need some ideas on how to “dress up” an area that might require more than the traditional “running brick” subway tile pattern. We think we have just about seen and heard it all but we try to offer suggestions when we can to customers who call and ask us our opinion on what to do in a particular area of their home. Better than our suggestions though are photos from our actual customers of completed tile project installations showing just what can be done with our subway tiles.

Thank you very much to this customer who is here in Arizona and was kind enough to send in photos of her tile project where she used our Cardiff Crackle 3 x 6 subway tiles in the Sand color as a kitchen backsplash tile for her home. We love how the tiles work well together with the colors of the cabinets and the countertop in the kitchen. And we especially like what our customer did with the area over her cook top.

Look at the beautiful and very creative Herringbone pattern that she did to really bring some design inspiration to the kitchen. We love the look that it gives to the cook top area and while I have never been in the kitchen I can imagine that the Herringbone design serves as a visual focal point for the kitchen area when guests are over to visit.

Making cuts to various types of glass tiles requires the use of different types of tools and one should know when to use one tool or another when installing their glass tiles. Read on and we will explain the difference in tool choices when planning one’s tile project.

Making cuts to glass subway tiles and glass mosaic tiles requires the use of different tools for a successful tile job. Making cuts to glass mosaic tiles is easier done by using glass tile nippers made for glass tiles to achieve a clean and smooth cut on the glass mosaic pieces. If one were to try to cut these glass tiles on a tile saw, the water from the tile saw often is not kind to the mesh on glass mosaic tiles and second, it is difficult to have the mosaic tiles remain in place on a tile wet saw so a clean and accurate cut can be made.

For glass subway tiles, we strongly recommend the use of a glass tile blade on a tile wet saw designed specifically for making cuts to glass tiles. A glass tile blade contains finer diamonds than what is found on a blade made for porcelain or ceramic tiles. A glass tile blade will cut glass subway tiles “like butter” and will result in clean, smooth cuts that are necessary for a problem free installation.

We supply glass tile blades in both a 7” and a 10” size and each size is in stock and ready for shipment to your door. If you have any questions on making cuts to glass tiles with any of our glass tile blades feel free to give us a call and we will offer our assistance in any way we can.

Diamond Blade for cutting Glass Tiles

We never miss a chance to educate our customers and to remind them to use a glass tile blade when making cuts to glass tiles that are 3” x 3” and larger in size. Tiles smaller than 3” x 3” are better suited for having cuts made with Tile Nippers designed for use with glass tiles.

We receive several phone calls per month asking us if either this blade or that blade is suitable for making cuts to glass tiles and we answer each time that one must us a proper blade when cutting glass. You will find that if a porcelain or ceramic tile blade is used when making cuts to glass tiles that the glass will chip and shred from uneven cuts and this is because the diamonds on these type of blades are not as fine as those on a glass tile blade.

The diamonds on a glass tile blade are very fine and they are designed for making the finer and more precise cuts needed for cutting glass tiles. We sell blades in both a 10” size and a 7” size and both are available and in stock. Any purchases of our Glass Subway tiles that are for $750 or more qualify to receive a free 7” glass tile blade along with their purchase.

Having the right tools is a big part of any home improvement project so make sure that when installing glass field tiles that you always use a glass tile blade when making any cuts to the glass.
