Dewdrops Glass Mosaic Tiles

The factory where many of our glass tiles are made has recently made a change in how they manufacture some of their products. Instead of purchasing new raw materials from a glass maker for the production of these glass tiles, they have put in place a program in their community where they now have access to a large supply of industrial waste glass which they collect on a regular basis to re-purpose and use to make many of our glass mosaic tiles collections.

The tiles where this change has been made are the Dewdrops, GlassBlends, and Cobbletones glass mosaic tile lines which are now made from post-industrial glass content and they are the newest additions to our recycled glass mosaic tile line-up. With customers seeking out more green products in their home remodeling and renovation projects we are always seeking to offer more choices in green products made for the home.

Our project spotlight today focuses on a homeowner who searched several tile stores in their local community and was unable to find the glass tile color they were looking for before turning to the internet to see if the color selection might be better online. Installing Paper-faced Glass Mosaic tiles

Kawaii Recycled Glass Tiles

We spoke to a client recently about installing paper-faced tiles and she brought up a point that we don’t talk enough about so I wanted to cover it in our Blog today. This applies mostly to the DIY’ers out there who will be installing their own material.

When installing paper-faced mounted tiles such as our Kawaii glass mosaic tiles, care needs to be taken during the installation process when setting the tile in to the adhesive. Since the tiles are paper-faced mounted, the paper should be removed from the face of the tile when the adhesive is cured enough to hold the tiles in place in the mortar, yet not too cured so no adjustments to the tiles can be made as the installation progresses.

When to remove the paper from the face of the tile depends on a number of factors including the weather and how hot or cold it is at the location where the tiles are being installed, what type of mortar adhesive is being used and how long the mortar takes to “set up”. Trial and error is the name of the game and installing paper-faced mounted tiles has been and can be installed by DIY’ers and Tile pro’s alike.

Seychelles is hard not to love given that (the country) is a small and beautiful island off the coast of East Africa with some of the prettiest scenery in the world.

Glass Tile Quarter Round for Glass Subway Tile

Solana Glass Tile Quarter Round in Cappuccino

We have received quite a few questions about when to use a quarter round and when one is not necessary. Our answer depends on which one of our glass subway tile products that you choose. When selecting our Solana beveled glass subway tiles, using the glass tile quarter round is necessary with the beveled tile when there is an open or exposed edge on a kitchen backsplash or shower to address. If your project ends in to a wall, then the tile can finish against the wall and there is no need for a quarter round piece.

When selecting our standard edge glass subway tiles the use of a quarter round is generally not necessary since the color of the edge of the tile is the same as the color of the face of the tile. The only case where this might change is if your tile installer will be using backer board on your substrate to install the tiles. In this case you will need a glass tile quarter round as your edge piece to cover up the edge and conceal the backer board.

Sometimes this if – when – but in this case etc. can get quite confusing. Please feel free to give us a call anytime about your project and we will do our best to add our 2 cents and give you our opinion on what might be needed or not needed for your particular job.

Solana Glass Tile Quarter Round in Cappuccino

With the introduction of our Solana Beveled Glass Subway tiles we knew we also needed a glass tile trim piece for use on projects that have an exposed edge. Thus, we are also introducing a collection of glass tile quarter rounds in matching colors to our Solana Glass subway tile collection and our Solana beveled subway tile collection.

There are eight glass tile quarter round colors even though our Solana glass subway tiles only consist of seven colors at this time. This is because we added a black color quarter round for those projects where folks might want to add a dark trim as a decorative piece with white or lighter color tiles.

Our glass tile quarter rounds are sold by the piece and they are in stock and ready for immediate shipment.
