Seven Splurges for your Kitchen

We finished a kitchen remodel a few months ago and now having lived with it for a few months I have come to understand some of the upgrades and splurges that are important. Both from the stand point of wow, so glad I got that. And unfortunately also, I should have gotten that.

1) Full extension drawers on your cabinets.

Don’t even think of not getting solid wood, dovetail, full extension drawers. Honestly, you will regret it. We have one drawer in our laundry room and I didn’t think that it was necessary to pay extra for the full extension feature because it is the laundry room, not the kitchen I reasoned. Every single time I go into t hat drawer and I find myself digging around in the back of the drawer where I can’t fully see, I regret this decision.

2) Built in silverware divider in silverware drawer.

I have a two tier built in silverware divider in my kitchen and I love it. It was well worth the extra money to have organized silverware not in a plastic container.

3) Solid surface countertop.

I love my granite. I love being able to cut on it. Put hot pans down on it. Not worry about staining it. It is also beautiful and adds character and value to any kitchen.

4) Soft close drawers.

If you have children who slam drawers you will love this feature. No more slamming. No more pinched fingers.

5) A garbage and/or recycling center.

I was never so happy to have a cabinet specifically designed for my garbage can. I was so tired of having it out in the kitchen.

6) A good quality hood.

It will not only pull the steam and smoke out of the area, but also the cooking smells. And sometimes I just don’t want the permeating smell of fish in my entire house. Call me crazy. Mine also has heat lamps to keep food warm on the stove.

7) Built in soap dispenser next to sink.

So nice not to have an ugly dish soap bottle out on the counter. It is also nice to be able to get soap with only one hand.
